Who are you?
I am Bubba Carr.
What is your choreographic style of dance?
My style can vary depending on what is called for. I was schooled in many styles of dance and enjoy creating movement ranging from contemporary to hip hop to abstract performance art.
When was your most provocative moment as a dancer or choreographer?
I’ve had so many. I think the one I’ve received the most “holy shit” comments from people who have seen it were when I was the self mutilating clown in Porno for Pyros concert at Woodstock 94. It was very freeing to create and improvise every show for a year. Fun stuff. As for movement based moments, they were when I was performing public displays of spontaneous movement to no music. I got up to 20 minutes and that was quite a spiritual experience to be one with my movement with no preconception and no judgement.
Where did this moment happen?
Hopefully a new moment will be created February 15th, 2015...we’ll see.
Why does this moment stick with you and how does it inspire you in all of your dance and choreography creations?
I view all opportunities to make movement as different. A lot of my work is for money, so in those moments I do what is right for the project. When my creation is for me I tend to go with what my feeling is at the moment. Dance can be quite cathartic and has served me well in times of emotional unrest or exaltation or when I just want to tickle or tackle an audience.
